Why are we like this??

No but for real, why are we like this? 😂 Can we talk about how ridiculous we are when it comes to having our picture taken? MYSELF INCLUDED.

We'll take 200 photos of our dog sleeping (obv), photograph our food before we eat it, and have approximately 47,000 pictures of our kids, partners, friends, and random shit we definitely don't need. And don't even get me started on the screenshots we'll NEVER look at again. Like, ever.

But the second someone points a camera at US? All of a sudden we are fixing our hair, sucking in our stomach, hiding behind someone else, or volunteering to TAKE the photo instead. And if we do end up in it, you better believe we're asking to see it immediately so we can decide it if makes the cut. Lol.

Why are we like this?!

Think about your favorite photos of the people you love. Are you sitting there analyzing their stomach, their hair, or whether their arm looks too big? Fuck no. You're remembering that day, how much fun you had, and how much you LOVE that person.

But YOU? Please- you're zooming in like you're investigating a crime scene. 😂 And here's what really gets me. How many times have you looked back at an old photo of yourself and thought, “Holy shit, I looked GOOD. Why did I hate that picture?!”

I've heard this from SO many clients over the years. People who wish they'd taken more photos when they were younger, before they had kids, before their bodies changed, or just during a time in their lives they wish they'd documented better. And I get it. We're not always going to love how we look. I certainly don't love every photo taken of me either. But I also think we're going to regret all the photos we refused to be in a hell of a lot more than the ones where our stomach wasn't perfectly flat.

EXAMPLE & STORY TIME: Just this past weekend I was searching my google photos because I knew I was wearing these pants that had a super low waist. Ok I know whatever, but they are back in style and I was trying to prove "I already did that" to Maddie hahahaha. I knew roughly what year it was but I literally had like 7 pics of me total. And not even in "the pants". I was like, wait what, that's all I have from that year?? Are we being so for real??

So anyway. Here's my little challenge for you! The next time someone pulls out a camera, STAY IN THE FUCKING PICTURE. Don't hide, don't worry, and definitely don't zoom in on every inch of yourself looking for something to hate. Instead say, "Thank you! Can you send me that!" and keep it close for later.

Because 10 or 20 years from now, I can almost guarantee you're not going to give a shit about whatever tiny perceived flaw you were obsessing over that day. You're just going to be happy you have the photo.

And so will the people who love you. 🖤
