Sometimes the best reason to book a boudoir session is simply because you want to.
And that's exactly what our girl Miss J decided to do!
At 26, she'd already experienced plenty of ups and downs throughout her early twenties. She'd grown, learned a lot about herself, and wanted photographs to remember this chapter of her life. There was just one problem: she'd talked herself out of booking more than once.
Between the financial investment and feeling like she wasn't in the best shape of her life, Miss J kept putting it off. But eventually, she had a realization that I absolutely loved. When booking, she said "this is the youngest I'll ever be again." And with that, she decided, "Fuck it—I'm going for it." I'm SO glad she did, because we had the best time together!
Getting Comfortable in Front of the Camera
Even though Miss J was excited, she wasn't completely free of nerves when she arrived. Like so many of my clients, she had certain parts of her body that she was particularly self-conscious about, especially her stomach.
But as we worked through different poses, played music, and tried on lingerie together, those initial nerves started fading. Miss J loved having someone walk her through each pose, and between all the outfit changes and girl talk, she was having an absolute blast.
At one point, she said she felt like the hottest woman ever, which is exactly the kind of energy I LOVE having in the studio!
The Insecurity She Was Most Worried About
When I asked Miss J about her biggest fear before booking, she told me she was worried about seeing photographs of her "bad side," particularly anything showing her lower belly. It's something she'd felt insecure about for years, although she'd gradually started appreciating that part of her body as she got older. And then she saw her photographs.
Instead of focusing on the things she'd been worried about, she absolutely LOVED how her curves and features looked. Miss J told me afterward that seeing herself photographed from a different perspective helped her appreciate her body in ways she hadn't expected. One of my favorite things she shared was how much easier it had become to remind herself that she was THAT girl!
The Photo Reveal That Changed Everything
Okay, this might be my favorite part. When Miss J sat down for her photo reveal, she was genuinely shocked by how much she loved the images. She'd had an incredible time during her session, but actually seeing the photographs was a whole different experience. And apparently, choosing a few favorites wasn't going to happen.
SHE BOUGHT EVERY. SINGLE. IMAGE. I mean, COME ON! 😍 For someone who'd previously hesitated because of the investment, hearing that she loved her photographs enough to purchase the entire collection was pretty freaking amazing. She rated her experience "10xa million," and when I asked whether she'd ever book another session, her answer was an immediate yes.
A Gift That Was Entirely for Herself
One detail I really loved about Miss J's story was that she was actually in a relationship when she booked her session…. But these photographs weren't a gift for her partner. They were for HER. She wanted to remember herself at 26, celebrate the woman she'd become throughout her twenties, and have something beautiful to look back on years from now. And I think that's a pretty fantastic reason to book.
When I asked what advice she'd give someone considering their own session, Miss J encouraged them to ask questions, have fun with different outfits, and trust the creative process. She also had a message for anyone waiting until they have their "dream body": you don't have to.
