Do You Really Need a Reason to Book a Boudoir Session? (The Actual Truth)
Now you know I shoot everyone, but for sake of example, if you asked ten women why they want to book a boudoir session, nine of them would give you a specific, socially acceptable calendar event.
“I’m getting married next summer.”
“I’m turning 40 and want to celebrate.”
“I just went through a brutal divorce and need to find myself again.”
“I’m working hard at the gym, and when I lose those last 10 pounds, I’m calling you.”
“I'm checking something off my bucket list.”
“I'm checking something off my bucket list.”
Don't get me wrong… those are incredible milestones. And, valid. I love celebrating those life transitions with you in my studio. But what about the days in between? What about the random Tuesday? It’s so crazy that we will put off taking photos because we think they need to be for some special occasion. We treat self-love and body confidence like a prize at the end of a finish line instead of something we deserve right now.
Here is the truth about why you need to stop waiting for a milestone, why your at-home selfies are frustrating you, and how to start capturing your own magic today.
The "Milestone Trap"
Why Women Wait for Permission
We have been conditioned to believe that wanting beautiful photos of ourselves is vain unless it’s tied to a major life event or wrapped up as a gift for a partner. We feel like we have to survive something, change our bodies, or prove something to justify spending a few hours celebrating the skin we live in.
Waiting for a reason is just a sneaky way of telling yourself that you aren't enough of a reason on your own.
Your existence right now—in the current body you have, at the exact age you are today—is the only justification you need. You don't need a permission slip from the calendar to feel like the bad bitch you are. Some of the most powerful and transformative luxury boudoir experiences that happen in my studio come from women who walked through the door with zero expectations and zero deadlines. They just showed up to claim their power and say - fuck it. Im doing this shit just because I want to.
The Inevitable Crash Out
Why Your At-Home Selfies Look Awkward
Let's talk about what happens when you do try to take matters into your own hands. You get dressed up, your makeups tea, hair on point, and you’re ready to take a cute picture of yourself.
You try the high angle. You try the mirror selfie. You do that weird neck stretch. 45 identical, irritating photos later, you delete the entire folder. You’ve thrown on sweatpants, washed your face, and threw your hair right back into that messy bun - all the while telling yourself, "I’m just not photogenic."
Stop right there. You aren't the problem. Your body isn't the problem. You just don't know what tf you’re doing.
Taking a great photo of yourself isn't something you're born with; it’s a skill. When you don't understand how phone lenses distort shapes, how to find the hidden good light in your house, or how to angle your body to create flattering lines, of course the photos are going to feel (and look) awkward.
And while I certainly wouldn't mind, you shouldn't have to hire a professional photographer every single time you want to feel confident in a photo. You deserve to know how to capture your own vibe whenever the mood strikes.
Why You Don't Need a Professional Camera to Feel Hot
You don’t need a total life reinvention or thousands of dollars of professional camera gear to start documenting your worth. You just need to know how to work with what you already have in your hand right now.
The most powerful thing you can do for yourself is to stop hiding behind the camera and step into the frame—literally and figuratively. Whether that means booking an intimate portrait session in a professional studio or learning how to take incredible pictures of yourself in your own home, the goal is the same: seeing yourself through a lens of grace instead of criticism.
